Strange Magic

It seems most of my posts are inspired by one image and result in me rambling on about it. This is no different I'm afraid.
I found this and I LOVE it.

It has a serious Glinda the Good Witch vibe and ever since I cast my first 'love' spell at primary school I've been into anything a little bit witchy.
(For the record, I can't remember who the unlucky receiver of my attention was, but the spell involved a ribbon, some petals, an envelope and something I'd read in mizz magazine)
I had a 'Charmed' spell book that I liked to carry around like an awesome pre-teen witch, loved Willow in Buffy and, in my slightly more 'angsty' days (well, I thought I was angsty, in reality, I was the least angsty teenager ever to have existed) I was introduced to The Craft.
Although I'm sure I'll do a post about my Nancy/teen witch/black magic interests, this is more about the lighter side of it all.

I made a new Polyvore set (I know, I'm obsessed) inspired by the picture above and a couple more -  it's pretty much a 'dress like a white witch' collection, which for me, is all about lace, layers and over accessorising. I guess, unsurprisingly, it has a virgin suicides-esque look, just with more jewellery!
A toned down look inspired by this is perfect for summer, so hopefully, if the rain EVER STOPS, I'll be able to fulfill my witchy flower girl desires and make love potions for Miles (a pint of Guiness or a raspberry Ribena probably) in my floaty garms...

I will leave you with a few more white witch vibes...

All That Glitters

I'm such a magpie. I saw this editorial a while back and was immediately drawn to it. There's something about crystal pants that I can't ignore...

Bekah Jenkins by Chris Nichols for Flare May 2012 - 'Beyond the Sea' - images from fashiongonerogue:

I love the crystals, sunkissed skin and warm, summer vibe of these shots - the model looks like a disco mermaid and so, inspired by these totally awesome images and my love of all things sparkly, here's a collection of delicious crystals and glitter...

Handpicked Handmade

I'm an eternal cat woman, so thought I'd show you my favourite cat related items from etsy.
Having only recently become active on etsy, setting up my own shop, Ruby Valentine, with my custom made loveliness (shameless plug), I'm making up for lost time and have become etsy mad.

So - here are my kitty themed handpicked handmade items:

Kitty Pendant by I'm Your Present
I LOVE this ginger kitty pendant from I'm Your Present - it was hard to chose a favourite cat related item from their shop because there are so many and they are all AMAZING. I first heard of I'm Your Present when a friend got an incredible tshirt from them and have been lusting after their stuff ever since.

Cat Flask by Lady Rene
I'm not a big drinker but I'd definitely use this adorable cat flask from Lady Rene to smuggle Ribena into a bar. A flask this cute would  make a perfect gift, for a loved one, or just yourself - there is such a huge range of awesome designs, check out the store for more!

Cat Print Silk Scarf by Fever Few
Look at this scarf - just LOOK at it. It's one of the best scarves I've ever seen. Available from Fever Few, this printed silk scarf would look amazing tied up in your hair or on the wall - I'd probably frame it so everyone could see how awesome it was.

Sterling Silver Cat Necklace from Lunahoo
This super cute cat silhouette necklace is from Lunahoo and is handmade from sterling silver. It's so simple, you could wear it everyday and it's definitely on my 'to buy' list.

Cat Collar with Tie from Finger Story
There are no words to describe how brilliant this cat looks. LOOK HOW SMART HE IS. If you would like your kitty to look this handsome, check out Finger Story's shop - bowties, hats and, my personal favourite, the tuxedo collar, for all your cat's fashion needs.

Cat Eye Specs from Vintage Optical Shop
And finally, not strictly cat related, but cat eye specs. I'm on the hunt for a new pair of glasses and am definitely swaying towards some like these beauties from Vintage Optical Shop. I love the detailing and am a sucker for tortoise shell. Have a look at their online shop for their awesome range of vintage frames.

Hope my fellow cat lovers like my picks, get on etsy and start shopping!

A Certain Shade of Green

Today has been pretty rubbish. Very rubbish actually. Terrible news x 2.
In order to try and stay positive, I thought I'd make a quick post about something I love... Green hair!

Last year, I dyed the bottom half of my hair emerald green and I LOVED it - apologies for the the poor quality picture....

I felt like an awesome grungey mermaid witch but sadly, had to dye it back dark after a few months because my hair was in quite bad condition, plus, it limited me a bit in terms of work (at the moment, amongst other things, I'm doing perfume promos and depending on the campaign - currently, the new Chloe fragrance - I don't think green tips would go down too well!)
As soon as I went back to black, I immediately felt very boring, and my obsession with green hair has continued to grow - unlike my own locks dammit.

I'm a huge Ramona Flowers fan, I'm pretty much in lesbians with her:

I'm also desperate to go as Ramona to a fancy dress party (or just an everyday party...) - it's up there with my dreams of dressing up as Princess Mononoke or Terrance & Phillip (couple's outifit with Miles - that's how we roll) - but I digress.

Her hair is awesome. All green hair is awesome. Here are some more awesome girls with green hair...
As always, all pictures are from tumblr, weheartit, or the fabulous google - if anyone knows who these wonderful emerald haired women are, let me know and I can add credit.

Delicious!

Not a very wordy post this time, but after today's occurrences, I'm not in a very talkative mood (which is rare for me) - I'll try to write something more interesting soon, I promise.

Bye for now!

Higher Love

Now, I'm not really a religious person, I've been christened, but aside from a few church visits with school when I was younger, it's just not something I chose to believe in - I respect everyone's individual religious views, and this post is in no way about bashing anyone. Instead, it's about religious iconography (from all beliefs) and how delicious I think it is.

I've experienced mixed opinions on my love of religious icons, some people find it hypocritical since I'm not religious myself, and some are confused by it as it's not limited to one religion, but it's something I've always been drawn to for purely aesthetic, rather than spiritual, reasons.

I guess this is just another appreciation post (I appreciate a lot of things) though this time, I can't tell you where it stems from. I've always been fascinated by it and have decorated my house accordingly. On a windowsill at the top of the stairs, a sparkly Mary stands proudly next to some dinosaur toys (religion vs. science eh?) with a Russian doll and Maneki Neko watching over them...it's like a shrine for all things awesome.

Something I love about religious iconography is often the grandeur in which it's displayed. Combine that with a bit of glitter or a neon light or two and you're onto a winner in my eyes. Traditional religious aesthetics meeting with popular culture is a match made in agnostic heaven.

Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet does this perfectly, so aside from lusting over Leo (still would. what?) I drool over the set for this film every time I watch it.
Delicious - see?

And a totally shameless picture of Mr.DiCaprio...

Sorry. I couldn't help myself.

Right... Rather than going on about why I love religious iconography, you can see for yourself how brilliant it is - here are some gorgeous pictures that support my point of 'all religious iconography is awesome and I want my house/life to look like the following' -
(all pictures are from tumblr or weheartit so no credits as yet, but if anyone knows where these come from, please let me know so I can give credit where it's due)

YUM.
